Mounting the control surfaces and power on a free hanging internal frame appears to be a very smart move by Japanese designers. GimBall uses familiar system to a gyrostabilizer that is used for camera stabilization in unmanned aircraft. However, unlike from ordinary UAVs, GimBall utilize it for stabilizing the whole inner frame so that the drone remain stable even in case of collision.
Of course, when you create a drone that allows collisions, you have to make it durable. GimBall is made of carbon fiber materials which makes it durable and reliable, while retaining really light weight.
